About this course
Aquaculture is a rapidly growing primary industry around the world which now supplies more than half the seafood consumed in the world today. This course forms part of the of our Certificate in Aquaculture but can also be taken individually by students wanting to develop a better understanding of Workplace Health and Safety in Aquaculture (WH&S).
Laws and regulations for WH&S exist in most countries throughout the world and while they may differ in some detail, they generally hold employers responsible for providing a safe working environment for their employees. In some cases this can mean that managers can be jailed or face large fines for failing to provide a safe workplace. This course introduces students to the types of policies and procedures that should be followed at a workplace to ensure that staff, management, visitors, contractors or other people are not injured as a result of the activities undertaken at that workplace. Students also learn about their role in maintaining a safe workplace and the various training and documentation that may be relevant.
The course also identifies common workplace hazards and the ways these can be managed for a safe workplace. This is a great introduction for anyone new to the industry and ideal for new workers wanting to learn about Workplace Health and Safety in aquaculture
